Political Propaganda: Same visual different meaning

What started out as a positive message and a positive visual for Obama turned into a visual that made a mockery of the 2008 election. Comment on how the same visual can be changed to have different underlying meanings.

  1. It is very interesting to see how the meaning of a picture can be transformed so quickly. Unfortunately this is something that happens too often, especially with public figures. For this reason, it is important for us to teach our students the importance of being safe when taking, posting, and viewing pictures. It also teaches us to show our students that not everything that you see is accurate.

  2. Christina,
Thank you for your post. I think you bring up a lot of good points. There are so many things out there in politics and advertisements that can be contrived and changed around. As teachers, we have to be so critical of what we present to our students. Thank you for your thoughts.

  3. The visuals above show how easy it is in this modern age to deface something. I personally am not a fan of the bumper stickers for either side. I feel as if it is disrespectful but understand that it is also for of free speech. This is something students need to learn about but not abuse.
